What is X10 home automation?
X10 is the longest established, DIY home automation solution that allows you control lighting, appliances, security systems, and heating and cooling in your own home.
Fully fleshed system, X10 includes everything from hardware to software but best of all, X10 is a retrofit solution. That means that you don't have to install cables or cut holes in walls to set up a system!
How does X10 work?
Most X10 devices and plug-and-play, and every one of them gets its own unique address. Each X10 component does something different and allow you to automate, or remotely control, your lights, windows, appliances, or heating and cooling with ease.
X10 uses your powerlines and radio signals to communicate between components. Each component speaks a special X10 language allowing them to send particular messages; lights will 'hear' on and off, while curtains will 'hear' commands such as open and close.
What is X10 compatible with?
X10 is the basis for a number of other home automation protocols, including advanced X10Pro modules, and A10. X10 is also compatible with WinPlus automation products.
