Z~Series Smart Energy Z-Wave Lamp Module
With Repeater Functionality
Setup Instructions
Please note that this version of the manual for this Z~Series product has been adapted for the online environment. As such it is missing many details from the printed manual including, but not limited to, pictorial depictions of the set processes described.
Networking Notes
The lamp controller must be paired (included) into your Z~Series network before it can receive Z-Wave commands or report on energy usage. It will only be able to communicate with devices in the one network.
Note: The LED surrounding the control button will blink if it is currently not paired into a Z~Series network.
Adding to a Z~Series Network
A lamp controller can be included in a Z~Series network either by a Z~Wave USB Stick or a Z-Wave Remote Control. See either the USB Stick's or the Remote Control's manual for further details.
- With the USB Stick: Press the command button to begin the Z-Wave inclusion process.
- With the Mini Remote Control: Slide down the front panel to reveal the network function buttons and press the 'Include' button.
- While the Smart Energy Illuminator is plugged into a power outlet, press the C shaped control button.
- If successful, the blue LED will either be on or off depending on the status of the Smart Energy controller. If unsuccessful, the blue LED will blink.
Removing from a Z~Series Network or resetting
- With the USB Stick: Press the command button to begin the Z-Wave removal process.
- With the Mini Remote Control: Slide down the front panel to reveal the network function buttons and press the 'Removal' button (see the Mini Remote Control's manual for further detail).
- While the Smart Energy Controller is plugged into an electricity outlet, press the control button.
- If successful, the Smart Energy Controller's LED will blink. If unsuccessful, the blue LED will either be on or off depending on the device's status.
Turning the Smart Energy Controller On or Off
You can control, automate, and schedule a Smart Energy Controller in a number of ways.
- From a Z~Series controller or gateway, such as the Mini Remote Control, Home Control Server, or recommended Z-Wave software, you can automate, schedule, or directly control power to the Smart Energy Controller. See the manuals for the specific devices you're using for further detail. Technical note: The specific Z-Wave commands supporting this function are the Basic Command Class and Multilevel Switch Command Class.
- Directly from the Smart Energy Controller by pressing the control button to toggle power on and off.
Dimming Or Brightening The Smart Energy Controller
Note: These instructions are specific to the Lamp version of the Lamp controller.
- Setting up the Lamp Controller as such, and not as an appliance controller, will provide additional dimming functionality in controllers, software, or gateways. See the manuals for the specific devices you're using for further detail.
- Holding down the control button will allow you to dim the attached light / lamp up or down.
Monitoring Energy Consumption
Smart Energy Controllers can report wattage energy usage or kWh energy usage to a Z-Wave gateway, such as the Home Control Server, or controller when requested.
If this function is supported by the gateway/controller, the energy consumption will be displayed in the user interface of the gateway/controller. Please consult the operation manual for these gateways/controllers for specific instructions on energy monitoring.
Technical note: The specific Z-Wave commands supporting energy monitoring are the Meter Command Class and Multilevel Sensor Command Class.
