Z~Series Z-Wave USB Stick
Overview
The Z-Wave USB Stick has three operation modes:
- Inclusion
- Removal
- SerialAPI
To operate in Inclusion and Removal modes the USB stick must not be plugged into a computer or server. To operate in SerialAPI mode, it must be plugged in.
Computer based operation may require installation of the Silabs CP2102 driver.
Adding Z-Wave Devices
Inclusion mode allows you to add Z-Wave products to your Z~Series network. To do this:
- Initiate Inclusion mode by pressing and releasing the C shaped command button. The blue LED light will begin to blink slowly. While in Inclusion mode, the USB stick is in a perpetual add/inclusion state and there is no need to press the button again to include each new device.
- To include a new Z-Wave device in your Z~Series network, simply go to the device with the USB stick and press the button on the device (the Z~Series device's manual will provide more detail on this). The LED on the USB stick will blink fast during as it communicates with the new device, and then stay solid for 3 seconds to indicate successful inclusion of the device into the network.
- When ready to include another device, the LED light on the USB stick will again begin to blink slowly. To include further Z-Wave devices repeat step 2.
- To exit inclusion mode, again press and release the command button.
Removing Z-Wave Devices
Removal mode allows you to delete / remove / exclusive Z-Wave devices from your Z~Series network.
- Initiate Removal mode by pressing and holding the C shaped command button for 3 seconds. When the USB goes into Removal mode the LED light will transition from blinking slowly to blinking fast. While in Inclusion mode, the USB stick is in a perpetual removal/exclusive state and there is no need to press the button again to remove additional devices.
- To remove a Z-Wave device from the network, simply go to the device with the Z-Stick and press the button on the device you wish to remove. The LED on the USB stick will stay solid for 3 seconds to indicate successful removal of the device from the network.
- When ready to remove another device, the LED light on the USB stick will again begin to blink fast. To remove additional Z-Wave devices repeat step 2.
- To exit removal mode, again press and release the command button.
Host Processor Control
The SerialAPI mode allows a host processor, such as a computer or Z~Series Home Control Server, to take control of the USB stick and control the Z-Wave network.
- Initiate SerialAPI mode by plugging the USB stick into the USB port of the host.
Notes:
- While in SerialAPI mode the USB stick is permanently in 'listening' mode while the USB host is powered.
- Pressing the command button will not have any effect.
