Shelly Gen3.

More memory. More power.
The Gen3 series ensures the quality and reliability of Shelly devices by using their own proprietary, powerful Shelly chipset. Boasting 8MB of memory, this dramatically improves device performance and efficiency.
Virtual components.

The Shelly Gen3 Series introduces “virtual components”.  Within the Shelly Smart Control app, you can now create virtual devices, integrating non-Shelly products into a unified control system.

On the road to Matter.
Each Gen3 device is engineered to be upgradable to Matter. The doubled memory, compared to Plus series, guarantees a smooth update process, paving the way for new smart capabilities and integrations.

Track.

Total power monitoring.

Know how much energy your home consumes with the new Shelly EM Gen3. Monitor single phase grid feeds, solar production or individual electrical circuits.

Expand by adding an additional 50A clamp to monitor a second power feed.

Control.

Heavy load control with contactors.
Besides precise power metering, Shelly EM Gen3 allows contactor control of heavy-load appliances such as hot water heaters, hot tubs, heat and pool pumps. This way, you can both monitor and control the consumption of larger appliances around your home or facility and maximise your savings.

Monitor.

Appliance health check.
Monitor the power usage of your appliances to ensure optimal performance and longevity. By tracking individual energy consumption patterns, you can proactively identify potential issues before they become costly problems.

App Control.

With the best cloud service in the World, user-friendly interface, scenes, bulk control and much more… the Shelly Cloud application allows you to control your home from anywhere. Each Shelly can be integrated and works with all other Shelly devices in the Shelly app.

1 review for Shelly EM Gen3 Wi-Fi Energy Meter

  1. Anthony Spierings

Before you purchase and install this device, it is worth reading some important detail buried in wiring diagram in the specification sheet. It shows that the power supply to the Shelly unit requires a dedicated 2A protection device (e.g. fuse or circuit breaker). Keep in mind that the 2A protective device must also be rated to successfully interrupt the fault level at the point of installation. For example, if the Shelly EM Gen3 Wi-Fi Energy Meter is installed in a switchboard, then the prospective current is normally in the 1-2kA range. A 2A fuse from the local electronics store will not suffice. Best option would be a CLIPSAL MX9MC102 2AMP SINGLE POLE CIRCUIT BREAKER 6KA or a HAGER NT102C 2 AMP SINGLE POLE 10KA CIRCUIT BREAKER or similar. A 2A circuit breaker itself is not expensive (around $12). But it can be difficult to source as most electrical wholesalers do not carry these due to lack of demand, and is often a special order. This will add cost and complexity to your Shelly EM installation. The installation manual for some of the other Shelly devices do not have a requirement for an upstream 2A protective device. Whether this is an omission in the installation manual or the other devices don’t need the 2A protective device is hard to say.
