How to factory reset Home Assistant Green

This guide explains how to factory reset Home Assistant Green.

A factory reset will completely wipe your Home Assistant Green and restore it to a fresh, out-of-the-box state. This removes all add-ons, integrations, users and settings.

Please be sure to backup before factory resetting if you wish to restore your current data on the new installation.

Important notes:

    • After successfully initiating the reset process, Home Assistant OS will be re-installed automatically
    • The LEDs start blinking
    • The Home Assistant Operating System now downloads the latest version of Home Assistant Supervisor and Home Assistant Core
    • Due to these downloads, it can take a while until Home Assistant becomes accessible again

Method 2: Factory Reset via SD Card (Advanced)

This method should only be used as a last resort. Only use this method if…

    • The reset button method above does not work

    • Home Assistant Green will not boot

    • You suspect your Home Assistant Green Internal Storage has become corrupted (you will need a SD Card)

    • The system is stuck in a boot loop

This process is not recommended for beginners unless advised by support – please see this excellent guide for Factory Resetting Home Assistant Green via SD Card.
