How to add Shelly Wi-Fi devices to Amazon Alexa

Adding Shelly Wi-Fi devices to Amazon Alexa is rather straight forward.

What you’ll need…
    • A Shelly device already set up in the Shelly Smart Control app (formerly “Shelly Cloud”)
    • The Shelly device shows as Online in the Shelly app
    • An Amazon account and the Amazon Alexa app installed
    • Internet access (Shelly <-> Alexa is a cloud-to-cloud integration)

How to link Shelly to Amazon Alexa

Option A (easiest): Link via the Shelly app

    • Open Shelly Smart Control.
    • Go to Settings > Amazon Alexa > Enable skill.
    • Tap Link and sign in with your Amazon account when prompted.
    • After linking, open the Alexa app and run Discover devices (or say: “Alexa, discover devices”).

Option B: Link from the Alexa app (Works with Alexa)

    • Open the Alexa app.
    • Go to More > Skills & Games.
    • Search for “Shelly Cloud” and tap Enable.
    • You’ll be redirected to Shelly login (my/home.shelly.cloud). Sign in and approve linking.
    • Run Discover devices (or say: “Alexa, discover devices”).

Confirm it’s working

  • In Alexa, try turning a device on/off from the app.
  • Try voice control, e.g.:
    • “Alexa, turn on Kitchen Light”
    • “Alexa, turn off Heater”

Tip: Exact voice control commands depend on the device type Alexa recognises (i.e. an on/off device).

Troubleshooting

1: Device isn’t showing in Alexa

    • Confirm the device is Online in Shelly Smart Control and Cloud is enabled.
    • In Alexa: Devices > Add Device > run Discovery (wording varies), or say “Alexa, discover devices.”
    • If still missing: disable the Shelly skill in Alexa, then re-enable and relink.

2: Alexa shows devices but they don’t respond

    • Check the device responds in the Shelly app first.
    • Power-cycle the Shelly device (where safe/appropriate), then run discovery again.

3: Devices appear but show “Offline” in Alexa

    • Check the device is online in the Shelly app first.
    • Power-cycle the Shelly device (turn circuit off/on if appropriate).
    • Unlink and relink Shelly in Alexa app.

Bonus: Trigger Alexa routines from Shelly

If you want a Shelly device/sensor/state change to trigger an Alexa routine, Shelly supports Alexa Notify via Shelly scenes for more flexible automations.
